🚨 ACTION ALERT: Protect Veterans –
Support LB 693!
Subject Line: Urge Your Senator to
Support LB 693 – Stop VA Claim Sharks
Veteran Supporters,
Nebraska veterans need your help! The
Nebraska Legislature is currently considering LB 693, a crucial bill that would
protect veterans from "VA claim sharks" – unaccredited, for-profit
businesses that charge veterans outrageous fees ($10,000+) for help filing benefit
claims with the VA.
These predatory actors often mislead
veterans, delay benefits, and exploit those who have bravely served our
country.
LB 693 would prohibit these
exploitative practices in Nebraska, ensuring veterans receive the ethical,
accurate and effective help they're entitled to under federal law.

Subject: Support LB 693 – Protect Nebraska’s
Veterans from Exploitation
Body:
Dear Senator [Last Name],
I am a [veteran / veteran family
member / concerned constituent] writing to strongly urge your "yes"
vote on LB 693.
This bill is a critical step toward
protecting Nebraska’s veterans from the growing problem of unaccredited,
for-profit "claim shark” companies that exploit veterans seeking assistance
with their VA disability claims. These companies often charge veterans
thousands of dollars—or demand up to 5–10 months of their future benefits—just
to file claims that VA-accredited organizations already assist with at no
cost.
These predatory practices don’t just
strip veterans of their hard-earned benefits—they often put them into debt.
Some companies charge tens of thousands of dollars while providing little to no
real assistance. Others continue billing veterans even when their disability
ratings increase, despite doing no additional work.
Veterans’ disability benefits are not
commodities, and Nebraska should not be a safe haven for bad actors who
profit off the trust and vulnerability of those who’ve worn the uniform.
Thankfully, Nebraska veterans already
have access to free, professional help from VA-accredited County Veteran
Service Officers (CVSOs), State Service Officers, and Veteran Service
Organizations (VSOs) such as the VFW, American Legion, DAV, and others.
These trusted, accredited sources provide ethical, accurate, and effective
claims assistance—without charging veterans a single penny. Veterans can also
choose to hire a VA-accredited attorney or agent to assist with their
appeal; however, any fees charged must be ethical, reasonable, and are
permitted under federal law.
I also urge you to protect the
integrity of LB 693’s language and resist any changes influenced by
lobbyists hired by out-of-state, for-profit companies. These groups have spent
tens of thousands of dollars attempting to weaken this bill and protect their
exploitative business model. Nebraska lawmakers must put veterans above profits
and refuse to let outside interests rewrite legislation meant to protect those
who served.
Please stand with Nebraska’s veterans
and vote "yes" on LB 693 without further amendments. Let’s
protect those who’ve protected us.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
