Transitioning to Civilian Life

Whether you’re looking for a job, have questions about benefits delivery at discharge or are interested in furthering your education, we’re here to help you transition smoothly and successfully.

Benefits Delivery at Discharge

You’ve earned your benefits. We’re here to help you understand them.

In 2001, VFW launched its Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program at military installations across the country. A cooperative initiative with the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs, BDD was established to assist service members departing from the military. Pre-discharge claims representatives at each BBD site help wade through the paperwork for veterans seeking VA entitlements and are prepared to discuss, education and medical benefits, and VA home loans.

If you’re within 60-180 days of discharge, we’re here to help. The VFW has 12 BDD sites across the country and is rapidly expanding. Contact a Service Officer to get started.

Education

Going back to school can be a big and complicated decision. Understanding your educational benefits shouldn’t be.

The VFW Service Officers are vital in helping veterans and their dependents understand and file for educational benefits. They are expert advisers and your best advocate in obtaining the educational benefits you deserve.

VFW played a large role in the passage of the GI Bill of Rights in 1944, the Montgomery GI Bill Act of 1984, and recently the Post 9/11 GI Bill.

We’re experts. Let us help. Contact your local VFW Service Officer.
