Four New Vans for the Nebraska Veteran’s Homes

Four new wheelchair-accessible, lowered floor Dodge minivans will have new homes at the Norfolk, Grand Island and two at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Homes. These vans were purchased with a grant by the Nebraska VFW through the Federal Transportation Administration’s

vans (600 x 246)

Section 5310 program.

The ability to pay for these vans in conjunction with the 5310 program comes from the generous donations of businesses and individuals in our communities across the state, VFW and Auxiliary members, Posts and Auxiliaries. Without these contributors to the “Perpetual Bus Fund”, VFW Nebraska would not be successful in the purchase of new buses and vans for our veterans’ homes.

These vans will enable our Veterans to get to doctor appointments, the hospital and participate in other outside events.

Each van cost $33,750 for a total of $135,000. The Nebraska VFW provided 20 percent of the total, with 80 percent coming from the state’s share of federal funding for a program helping private, nonprofit entities purchase vehicles to aid in the transportation of persons with disabilities and the elderly.
